Sevella Wilson Barcliff

Sevella Wilson Barcliff, known to many as “Vell”, went to her home in glory with the Lord on May 17, 2017, surrounded by her caring family.  Born July 9, 1946 in Nansemond County, she was the third of five children of the late John Lee and Victoria Elizabeth Wilson.

Sevella was a 1964 valedictorian graduate of East Suffolk High School and a proud graduate of Virginia State University, where she obtained her Bachelor and Masters Degrees.  Sevella was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was a compassionate, loving and devoted servant of God who will surely be missed by those who were touched by her giving heart.

Sevella leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Michele Barcliff Glover (James) and Deborah Barcliff King (Franklyn); one grandchild, Michael John Barcliff (Karla); four siblings, Mary Copeland (Leon), Virnest Wilson (Betty), Victoria Holliman (Rev. Nonnie) and Rev. Kevin Wilson (Ollie) and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.

Truly Sorry to hear about my dear sweet cousin passing. Sevella was a joy to be around and gave me some much needed advice. I love her and I will miss her deeply.

My prayers will continue to be with the family, I will truly miss Sister Barcliff. We served on several ministries at Shiloh. Sister Barcliff had a kind and compassionate spirit, she was an Angel.

To the family: You have my deepest sympathy. Sister Barcliff was so instrumental in praying for and ministering to me when my wife was critically ill and ultimately passed away in 2015. Sister Barcliff saw me crying after church during my time of sadness and encouraged my heart to stay strong. Sister Barcliff was a great Christian lady! I hold a special place in my heart for her life well lived and forever thank God that he sent Sister Barcliff my way.

My prayers are with the family. I worked with your mother in Norfolk Public Schools. She was a beautiful person. Because of the life she lived we will meet her again.

The bond that connected Ms. Barcliff and I was like a delicate thread yet strong as steel during our hours in the church office. I will always remember the many lessons of wisdom she conveyed both verbally and non-verbally always ending them with a powerful word, JESUS.
