Raymond Robert Smith, Jr

Raymond Robert Smith, Jr. was born on December 18, 1943 to the late Raymond (Pop) and Mary Virginia Smith.  Raymond transitioned from this earthly dwelling into eternity on December 26, 2023.

Raymond worked at the Newport News Shipyard for his career.  He was first married to Brenda Smith and from that union 2 children were born: a son, Rodney Ray, and a daughter, Zandra.  Later in life, God blessed Raymond to find love with Deloris R. Lindsay (Dee Dee), whom he married in August 2001. He was a devoted husband to  Dee Dee and was “Uncle Raymond” to the family.

Raymond loved being with family and attending family gatherings, where he was always taking pictures with his fancy camera.  He thought himself a true handyman and often did projects around the house.  He was a member of New Life Providence Church, where he also briefly worked, doing odd-jobs and supporting the custodial staff.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris   “Dee Dee” Smith; 2 brothers, Rosser “Rossi” Turner and James Smith; 3 sisters-in-law, Betty Smith, Josephine Turner, and Catherine Corbin; and 1 brother-in-law, Elton Rudd. Cherishing his memory are: his son, Rodney Ray Smith (Erica) of Hampton, VA; his daughter, Zandra Smith of Fredericksburg, MD; his stepson, Pastor Melvin “Ray” Lindsay, Jr. (Dennise) of Durham, NC; 3 grandchildren, Kaylan Smith, Zachary Smith, and McKinley Smith; 2 brothers, Nathaniel Smith (Elizabeth) and Ernest “Rickey” Smith (Gail); 1 sister-in-law, Sylvia Turner; and 2 brothers-in-law, Bruce Turner and Jimmy Rudd (Denise). Raymond also has a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews, along with other loving family and friends who will also cherish his memory.
