Assignment to His Purpose-March 4, 1949

Receipt of Heavenly Reward-September 7, 2022

On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Patricia Ann Pouncey Hollinsworth, affectionately known by all as “Miss Pat” gracefully took flight to be with the Lord.

Miss Pat was born on March 4, 1949, the daughter of the late William Pouncey, Sr. and Mattie Jestena (Armstead) Pouncey of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  In 1956 after the death of her father, her mother decided to relocate the family and found a family home on Peach Street in Buffalo, New York and a faith home at St. John Baptist Church under the late Reverend Burnie C. McCarly where Sister Pat accepted Christ and was baptized.  She was educated in the Buffalo City school system graduating from Fosdick Masten Vocational High School specializing in Cosmetology.  Her love for the Lord led her to answer the call to serve as the Church Secretary at St. John Baptist Church. She graduated from Bryant & Stratton College with an Associate of Arts degree in Business and egan her new career with Blue Cross and Blue Shield followed by TOPS grocery store.

In 2001, Sister Pat moved to Norfolk, Virginia to be near her son, Kenneth (Pooh) and began working at the Food Lion Corporation after having an extensive career in Customer Service and Catering (cake decorating) retiring in 2020. She was known for her generosity in providing goods to various church events, especially the church’s Youth MinistryWednesday Night and the annual Vacation Bible Camp.

She loved her family greatly. She was a very fun-loving person who never met a stranger. She enjoyed sharing special times with family and her friends. She loved to play bingo, travel to Niagra Falls and Vegas casinos. She enjoyed listening to Shirley Caesar “Satan I’m Gonna Tear Your Kingdom Down” and Yolanda Adams, “Yet Still I Rise”.

She loved the Lord with all her heart and was always ready to give Him praise. She joined the Olive Grove Baptist Church on May 5, 2013 under the leadership of Pastor Larry Williams, Sr. and was a faithful member. She served as the President of the Senior Usher Board, member of the Hospitality Ministry and shared her love for youth by volunteering to help with the church’s Youth Ministry.

Sister Pat was predeceased in death by her parents, older sisters Agertha Pouncey, Rosie Pouncey Kerney and her brothers; Walter Lee and William Puncey Jr.

Sister Pat leaves to cherish her memory two sons Rashad Thomas of Buffalo, New York     and Kenneth Hollinsworth, Jr.of Norfolk, Virginia, four grandchildren; Aja Thomas, Anya Thomas and Ra’Shadrian Thomas of Buffalo, New York, Zayvion Hollinsworth of Pearland, Texas and Kennedia Taylor of Norfolk, Virginia and a host of other relatives, extended family and friends.

She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
