Mavis Andrea Pigott

Mavis Andrea Mason - Pigott passed away Saturday September 14, 2019 at her residence.

Mavis Andrea Mason-Pigott was born on December 7, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia to Mr. and Mrs. Eddie T. (deceased) and Stella C. Mason (deceased) and raised with four brothers: Eddie Jr. (deceased), Larry (deceased), and Gregory Sr. (deceased). Andrea, or “Dre,” as she was affectionately known, attended the elementary school of and grew up in the Douglass Park Community of Portsmouth, VA. Andrea then attended Waters Middle School, and in 1972, graduated from I.C. Norcom High School.

Following high school, she enrolled in Norfolk State College and earned her Registered Nurse professional licensing. As a RN, she worked for hospitals and medical agencies, specializing in obstetrics and dialysis, across the US.

During her career, Andrea met her life partner and husband, Willie James Pigott. They met in 1990, married in 1994, and celebrated life together until Willie passed away in 2009. Thereafter, Andrea continued to be dedicated to the Mason and Pigott families, church community, and friends. She also provided support to many in her neighborhood.

She is also survived by nieces Laverne Bryant, Damita Mason-Gore, and Denise Wilson; nephews Darius Mason and Gregory Mason, Jr.; best friend Bea Hunter, stepfamily Derek, Nicole, BJ and Andre Pigott; and family and friends of Philadelphia, PA, Dover, Delaware, DE, and Hampton Roads.

The Mason-Pigott Family would like to thank the First Emmanuel Baptist Church Family for embracing our loved one. We also thank the many friends and neighbors of The Commons of Chesapeake.

Where do I begin? I guess with the conversations that I've been having with you in my . I thanked you for teaching me how to fold fitted sheets & remember fondly how we talked about the best way to fold towels when your linen closet is too small. I thank you over & over for the home cooked meals delivered to my dorm room at Hampton with a smile and tons of love. I told you that you're the reason why I love the smell of bleach the way that I do. The dishes just don't seem clean without it & neither does my bathroom. I wasn't quite sure you heard me until I noticed a little white butterfly following me as I walked down the street. I stopped and watched that butterfly flutter all around me and felt like it was you coming to say so long cuz so as I she'd a tear and smiled at the same time I said out loud "I love you" and watched flutter away. Butterfly Kisses Cuz.

To: Leslie, Diana, Vincent, EBC Family, Family and Friends:

It is with our deepest heartfelt sympathy as we share with you the passing of our DEAR ANDREA.
She served faithfully with JNSPIRE Outreach Ministry as our cook for several years as we reached out to the community to encourage others with Prayer Breakfasts, theme related Luncheons and Banquets. She came to me the question, "How can I help you? and said I am here to serve you as you did the work of the Lord." We talked and we prayed. I knew the she was an angel sent by God to help us. We spent hours if quality times together both spiritually as Sisters and co labors in Christ

Andrea fought a good fight, she has finished the race, she remained faithful. And now the prize awaits her_the of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, will give her on the day of His return. And the prize is not just for her but for all who eagerly look forward to His appearing.

Andrea was my sister not my sister-in-law. She was always so kind to me. She got her wings now because she was an Angel.
