Lyra Josephine Green

June 22, 1957 — March 15, 2023

Life and Family

Lyra Green was the most loving person and a wonderful woman of God. She was known as Mammy, Grandmother, Sister Green, Mother Green, and Mrs. Green. She was born on the beautiful island of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, on Saturday, June 22, 1957, to Eleanor Delores Nicco and Macelino Cruz. Lyra was adopted by her great-aunt and husband, Josephine and John Jarvis. She was the eldest of her eight siblings.

Lyra loved her family. She met her husband, Edward Green, in 1972. Edward and Lyra were married on July 6, 1974. They had enjoyed a wonderful marriage of 42 years. They parented a total of 6 children, five daughters and one son. She also had one stepdaughter, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.

She lived a blessed life where she loved to travel all over the world. She really enjoyed spending time with her children and grandkids. She was known for her talents with her arts and crafts. Many have been blessed with her gifts of blankets, towels sets, vanity trays, center-pieces, and many other items.

Faithful Woman of God

Lyra was a member of First Assembly of God Church in St. Croix. Her commitment to First Assembly consists of the children’s Sunday school teacher and the Women’s Ministry. Once she moved to Virginia, she joined the Miracle Christian Center church. She continued her work with the Women’s Ministry with Bible study and prayer calls over the phone with her sisters in Christ from the Virgin Islands and on the mainland.

To cherish her memory, Lyra leaves: children, Leola Green, Lenore Green-Henderson, Lydia Green, Linda Green, Eleanor Green-Rivera, and Edward N. Green; stepdaughter, Julia Green; siblings, Trevor Jarvis, Marcelino Cruz, Orlando Cruz, Robelto Cruz, Marcelina “Shelly” Schjang, Juan Cruz, and Mark Cruz; grandchildren, LeTroye` Lang, Presh`us Wheeler, Dymond Davis, Johnathon Wheeler, Isaac Davis, Shequeenia Mitchell, Kiyana Rivera, JahBlessing Henry, and Khasim Rivera; great-grandchildren, Lauren Lang, Edward Holmes, and Jeremiah Davis; step-grandchildren, Jualyn Jnohope, Julissa Esprit, and Amiah Esprit; son-in-law, Khasim Rivera; and a host of extended family and friends.
