Hershel found his way to our church St. Mark RZUA Feeding The Community Outreach program. He was a welcome addition and always was willing to help out when asked. He loved hot sauce and always requested it with his meals. We were shocked to hear of his passing and will truly miss him. Our prayers go out to the family. Deacon Fred Barron.

Herschel and I met as new friends about "13" years ago, I was working the Front Desk at the former Tazewell Hotel & Suites (Granby/Tazewell Sts). I believe that he was staying at the United Mission, also on Granby St. He came in inquiring about a Houseman position. We became very good friends afterwards.
When I moved Olde Huntersville in 2016, Herschel, along with my nephew Brian, got it done.
Herschel had a childlike faith and I never saw him get upset, he was always forgiving even when I was not. He often spoke of his parents/grandparents with Heavenly overtones. I believe that the Lord has allowed them to be together again.
Lastly, whenever you missed a call from Herschel, His message would include.."please call me so that I can talk with you directly". Straight from His Southampton County/Drewryville youth.
Sleep on my friend, I'll see you in the morning!
