Frances Yvette Yates Mendez, 58, of Norfolk, Virginia, formerly of Harrodsburg, KY, suddenly departed to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Born September 4, 1958 in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, she was the mother of Gwenetta Yvette Yates of Norfolk, Virginia and Edward Lee (Sheliah) Davidson, Jr. of Harrodsburg. She was the daughter of Jerry Lynn Yates of Harrodsburg and the late Henry Lee Hines. She attended Harrodsburg High School and was a former employee of Goodwill and Pizza Hut of Harrodsburg. She was employed at Food Lion in Norfolk and touched the lives of everyone she met. She enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church Harrodsburg.

She accepted Christ at an early age and dedicated her life to taking care of others. She had an infectious smile, a sweet disposition, and a joyous laugh that brought happiness to so many. She loved to cook and took pride in her ability to comfort others with her delicious meals. She was a friend to many and a mother to countless others. She believed in giving to others and opened up her home to anyone in need. Her presence in the lives of all who loved her will be greatly missed.

Survivors include nine siblings: Laura Phillips of Lexington, Ky., Melvin (Kim) Yates of Indianapolis, In., Bonita (George) Trigg of Harrodsburg, Becky Yates of Virginia Beach, Va., Betsy Anne Yates of Norfolk, Va., Rev. Cecil M. (Alita) Yates of Ridgecrest, Ca., Joey (Lana) Yates of Harrodsburg, Craig and Robin Hines of Campbellsville, Ky., and Kelli Napier of Harrodsburg. Five grandchildren: Marcus Savage, Natalie Gray, Dyson Davidson, Emoni Gray, and Eyonie Davidson. A paternal Aunt Mrs. Bessie ("Granny") VanDyke Henderson of Harrodsburg and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends - especially Amber Hill and Alfredo (Freddy) Mendez.

In addition to her father, Frances was preceded in death by a brother Jeffery Linn Yates.
