Bernard Washington, a meter mechanic for the city of Virginia Beach and a long time resident of Norfolk, VA died unexpectedly on April 11,2019 at the age of 51.


Bernard leaves to cherish his memories; Arthur Edwards Jr. (father), 2 children Tatyana Barbara Washington (Daughter), and Damien Purnell  Jr. (son). Shavon Bethune (mother of his children). two Aunts; Mary Lee Anderson of New York and Carolyn Washington of Atlantic Georgia.Three sisters; Desiree Jones-Rogers of Jamaica New York, Victoria Edwards of Colombia, S.C. and Crystal Gothier of New York. Two brothers; Michael Sherrod of California and Timothy Hickman of New York, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
he was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Washington and sister Barbara Sherrod.

Bernard was born in Harlem, New York on July 28,1967. he attended P.S 133 elementary school, P.S 135 junior high school, and he completed his education and graduated from Chelsea high school in 1985. He decided to join the Military after high school and was in the  Marine branch. while in the military he had the chance to be stationed in Puerto Rico which he enjoyed. He later was stationed in Norfolk,VA  until the early 1990's when he decided to depart ways from the Military and resided in Norfolk.


In Bernard younger days he was often called Bernie. And  even though he was the shortest he was the toughest often known to take up and fight for his cousins. But when it came to his mama he would throw all the belts out of the window to avoid that old fashion whooping. He was also know as the big mac eating champ. Some of his hobbies he enjoyed as a young boy was playing basketball, watching midget wrestling, and karate flicks.


Bernard was a devoted father and a great provider. He enjoyed watching college basketball, NBA basketball, boxing, documentaries, ratchet tv  (what he would call it) ex: Love and hip hop, and listening to podcasts. His favorite podcast was the 5150 show.  Bernard enjoyed to debate. His favorite line was "You never know when you're winning" often said to Tatyana. Bernard also was a huge sneaker head he owned over 50 pairs of kicks. He loved to listen to hip hop and r&b.He was an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking dinner often for his children. He had a big heart and always did what he could to make others happy. Bernard will truly be missed from the people that loved him.


It is the desire of the Washington family that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
